Udinese vs Lecce

With a golden opportunity to build off of their recent purple patch, a resurging Udinese will welcome Lecce to an empty Dacia Arena on Wednesday evening.

Udinese
Starting with the hosts, although Udinese might have left it too late to mount a top-10 charge, I Bianconeri have continued on what has been a recent resurge at the Dacia Arena. Putting in another professional display on their travels over the weekend, the White and Blacks landed a 1-0 win at Cagliari and find the mood in their camp at arguably a season-high. While Luca Gotti’s side may have marked their return from the enforced break with some still looking over their shoulder at the drop zone, they will undoubtedly be boosted by what was a famous display on home soil last week. Despite falling 1-0 behind against newly-crowned champions Juventus, Udinese put on a stunning second-half comeback and landed what was a stellar 2-1 victory and have landed back-to-back wins for the first time since January. Already picking up a 2-0 win against Roma and taking points off of Champions League chasers Lazio since the restart, Wednesday’s hosts have lost just a pair of their last eight Serie A contests, by far their brightest run of 2020.

Team News

With all four players still dealing with respective knee injuries, Udinese have confirmed that they will once again be without Lukasz Teodorczyk, Mato Jajalo, Rolando Mandragora and Sebastian Prodl in midweek.

Lecce
As for the visitors, while the mood in Udinese’s camp will be at a real high, Lecce could likely still be reeling from what was a heartbreaking defeat against Bologna over the weekend. Despite mounting an eye-catching comeback at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, they shipped a 93rd-minute strike and still find themselves at the heart of a relegation battle with time ticking away. With just two Serie A contests remaining in the 2019/2020 campaign, I Giallorossi find themselves sat four points adrift of safety heading into Wednesday’s matchup. Failing to build off of their 3-1 victory against an already relegated Brescia last week, Fabio Liverani’s men have lost three of their last four top-flight appearances and have continued to gain a reputation for their issues at the back. Including shipping a trio of goals on their travels over the weekend, Lecce have already conceded a staggering 80 Serie A strikes throughout this year’s campaign, the worst defensive tally in Italy’s top-tier. Collecting just a single point over their last six contests outside of Apulia, I Giallorossi could be in for another long evening in midweek.

Team News

Still struggling with an injury issue since the restart, Lecce look set to once again be without midfielder Alessandro Deiola on Wednesday.

Aside from the 24-year-old, Lecce don’t have any other injuries or suspensions to worry about in midweek.

Key Factors to Consider
Including a 1-0 win when the two sides faced off earlier in the season, Udinese have won each of their last three contests against Lecce.
Wednesday’s hosts have landed back-to-back Serie A victories for the first time since January.
Lecce have conceded 80 Serie A goals this season, the worst defensive tally in the division this year.
Udinese have lost just two of their previous eight Serie A appearances, their most fruitful patch of 2020.
Seven of Lecce’s last eight away contests have seen over 2.5 goals by the final whistle.
Conclusion
On paper, Udinese should Wednesday as a golden opportunity to extend on their recent purple patch. Still boosted by a stunning 2-1 victory against newly-crowned champions Juventus at the Dacia Arena last week, I Bianconeri have secured back-to-back Serie A victories for the first time since January. Skyrocketing up the standings and losing just a pair of their last eight contests, they have already landed a 2-0 win against Roma and have taken points off of Lazio. There is no doubt that the hosts should be relishing Lecce’s arrival in midweek. Sat four points adrift of safety with just two contests remaining, Wednesday’s guests have also managed to collect just a single point over their last six appearances on the road. Losing each of their last three meetings against Udinese, we’re backing a similar outcome at the Dacia Arena.

Football Accumulator

With the action from across Europe rolling onto Thursday night, we are offered a string of eye-catching meetings in midweek. On that note, for those of you looking to stick on a midweek acca, we have searched far and wide to find you a couple of helpful tips.

Daily football accumulator – Thursday 6 February

Starting with Thursday’s guests, putting in what was a rampant display and picking up a thumping 5-0 win against Belenenses over the weekend, Porto are cruising to their 29th Primeira Liga crown. Holding a six-point buffer over an inconsistent Benfica and winning their last three contests on the bounce, the Dragons are also in the midst of a run that has seen them lose just one of their last 13 top-flight appearances. Along with really starting to shine in the final third since making their return from the enforced break last month, Head Coach Sérgio Conceição will be most impressed by his side’s remarkable record at the back. Recording another clean sheet at the Estádio Do Dragão on Sunday, Dragões have gone five matches on the bounce without picking the ball out of their own net and will be looking to make another statement on Thursday. On the flip side, while Porto might be battling it out at the top of the Primeira Liga, Tondela find themselves still at the heart of a relegation scrap. Hit with a 1-0 defeat at home against Famalicão over the weekend, the midweek hosts have collected just a single point over their last four contests on the bounce. Even more worrying for the Gold and Greens, they have managed to bag just a single goal from open play on their winless run. Winning each of their last six straight meetings against Tondela and remarkably recording a clean sheet in each of those victories, we’re backing a similar outcome on Thursday night.

Tip: Porto win to nil @ 11/10

20:15 Aston Villa vs Manchester United

Eventually putting five past Bournemouth over the weekend and extending on what has been a remarkable unbeaten run, the mood in Manchester United’s camp appears to be at a season-high. Still firmly in the race to secure a Champions League return this summer, the former Premier League champions find themselves enjoy a stunning 16-match unbeaten run across all competitions. More impressive, winning their last four appearances on the bounce, the Reds also managed to book an FA Cup semi-final showdown against Chelsea for later in the month. Really starting to shine in the final third and now bagging 13 goals on their winning run, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be most impressed by Mason Greenwood’s stunning purple patch. Putting in another Man of the Match display against Bournemouth on Saturday and bagging a brace at Old Trafford, the 18-year-old sensation has bagged three Premier League goals in back-to-back matchups and is continuing to break records in Manchester. With Villa in the midst of a real crisis and still showing some glaring issues at the back, Greenwood should be confident of extending on his tally in midweek. Eventually hit with a 2-0 defeat at Anfield over the weekend, Dean Smith’s side are low on both form and confidence. Still sat four points adrift of safety with just five contests remaining, the Midlands outfit have failed to win any of their last 10 matchups across all competitions, with eight defeats and two draws. Holding the worst defensive record in the Premier League, Villa could be in for another tough test on Thursday night.

Tip: Mason Greenwood to score anytime @ 11/10

20:45 Tenerife vs Real Zaragoza

Starting with Thursday’s hosts, shocking many across the Segunda once again last week and snatching a dramatic late winner away at top-two chasers Almería, few would have expected Tenerife’s stellar purple patch. Now in the midst of a stunning six-match unbeaten run, their most fruitful spell of the season so far, Chicharreros have collected 14 points on their glittering run and have their own play-off finish on their agenda. Opening the midweek fixtures sat just two points adrift of breaking into the top-six and with a growing reputation for their clinical displays in the final third, one man to keep an eye out for in midweek will be the red-hot Luis Milla. Once again converting from the spot against Almeria over the weekend, the 25-year-old has now recorded four Segunda strikes in as many appearances. With the mood in their camp only continuing to skyrocket, there is no doubt that Thursday’s hosts will be boosted by what was a famous 2-0 win against league leaders Cadiz last month. On the flip side, while Tenerife might be a side on the charge, Zaragoza find themselves enduring their worst run since the end of October. Hit with a 4-2 drumming against Rayo Vallecano on Monday night, Víctor Fernández’s side have lost their last three Segunda matchups on the bounce and have collected just three points out of a possible 15. Slumping to a 1-0 loss the last time they made the trip to Tenerife, Chicharreros will be confident of extending on their purple patch in midweek.

Two sides who have a European finish at the top of their agenda, a resurging Arsenal will welcome Leicester to an empty Emirates on Tuesday night.

f:id:kurosawakung:20200707162626p:plain

Arsenal
Starting with the hosts, despite showing plenty of cause for concern when making their return from the enforced break last month, it appears that Arsenal are a team on the rise. Really bouncing back from their stunning late defeat away at relegation scrappers Brighton, Mikel Arteta’s side really made a statement away at Molineux over the weekend. Shocking many across the Premier League and landing a stunning 2-0 win away at Champions League chasers Wolves on Saturday evening, the Gunners have won their last four matchups across all competitions and now find themselves sat just three points adrift of breaking into the top-six. Along with shinning in the final third and also landing three Premier League clean sheets on the bounce for the first time since November 2017, there is no doubt that their former skipper will be hugely excited by Arsenal’s recent displays in North London. Including hitting a rock-bottom Norwich for four in their last appearance at the Emirates, Tuesday’s hosts have won their last four straight top-flight matchups on home soil and have collected 16 points out of a possible 18 over their last six contests in the capital.

Team News

Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe is expected to be back in contention after he missed the win over Wolves because his wife was giving birth.

Calum Chambers, Bernd Leno, Pablo Mari and Gabriel Martinelli are out for the season.

Leicester
As for the visitors, while Leicester might have also shown some real issues when returning to action last month, they too picked up what was a much-needed morale boost at the King Power on Saturday. Landing a thumping 3-0 win against a fading Crystal Palace on home soil, the Foxes once again find themselves holding a three-point buffer from slipping out of the Champions League positions. Landing their first win since returning from the break over the weekend, Brendan Rodgers will now be desperate for his side to make some real alterations on the road. Including a 2-1 defeat when they made the trip to Goodison Park last week, Leicester have failed to win any of their last five Premier League contests away from the King Power, collecting just a pair of points on that run. Although the Foxes might be seeking some stability, they will be boosted by what is an eye-catching record against Tuesday’s hosts. Including a 2-0 win when they faced off against the Gunners earlier in the season, Leicester have landed back-to-back wins against the top-six chasers.

Team News

Leicester midfielder James Maddison remains a doubt because of an ongoing hip complaint.

Ben Chilwell and Ayoze Perez both face fitness tests after they were forced off against Crystal Palace.

Key Factors to Consider
Including a 2-0 win earlier in the season, Leicester have landed back-to-back victories against Arsenal.
However, the Foxes have failed to win any of their last five Premier League away fixtures, collecting just two points.
Arsenal have won their last four matches across all competitions.
The Gunners are also unbeaten in their last six Premier League matches at the Emirates, collecting 16 points.
Jamie Vardy’s brace in Leicester’s 3-0 win against Crystal Palace saw him take his overall Premier League tally to 101 goals.
Conclusion
Really laying down a marker away at Wolves over the weekend and now in the midst of a four-match winning run across all competitions, Arsenal will be looking to pick up another scalp in midweek. Enjoying their brightest run since Mikel Arteta took over in North London, the Gunners now have a top-six finish at the top of their agenda. While Leicester might have picked up a much-needed morale boost against Crystal Palace on Saturday, the Foxes have continued to show a string of issues on the road. Failing to win any of their last five contests away from the King Power, Brendan Rodgers’ side could be in for another tough test on Tuesday.

Sarri denies row with Pjanic, confident of Ronaldo rebound

f:id:kurosawakung:20200622180038j:plain

Ronaldo

MILAN, June 21 (Reuters) - Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri has rubbished suggestions of a falling out with midfielder Miralem Pjanic and is confident Cristiano Ronaldo will quickly bounce back from disappointing restart to the season.

Sarri has quickly found himself under pressure after Juventus were beaten on penalties by Napoli in Wednesday's Coppa Italia final.

The only other game they have contested since the three-month stoppage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic was the Coppa semi-final at home to AC Milan five days earlier, which also ended 0-0 after Ronaldo missed a penalty.

On Sunday, La Stampa newspaper suggested that relations between Sarri and Pjanic had gone frosty with the Bosnian set to benched at Bologna on Monday when leaders Juve, who are one point ahead of Lazio, resume their Serie A campaign.

"The story of my row with Pjanic is one of the biggest hoaxes of the season," Sarri told Sky Sport Italia. "I talk a lot with Miralem, maybe he's one of the guys I have the most interesting and meaningful discussions with.

Similarly, there were no problems with 35-year-old Ronaldo, he said.

"I spoke to Cristiano again yesterday, alone and for a long time. He mustn't lose his confidence, I hope that from tomorrow the fantastic player of old will come back. It's just that he's not physically at his best right now."

Sarri said he had dispensed with the idea of using Ronaldo as a centre forward, which he briefly tried against Milan. "He has scored 700 goals by starting slightly wide of centre, that's his preference and that is normal," he said.

He added that it was time to forget about Wednesday's defeat.

"Losing a trophy is always something that weighs on you, and brings disappointment and bitterness," he said. "But that's the situation. We need to move on and think about the next few games without being influenced by something we've lost." (Editing by Pritha Sarkar)
